Myanmar’s Intellectual Property Department (IPD) is now accepting applications for geographical indication (GI) registration under the Myanmar Trademark Law. The opening enables eligible applicants to seek registration through the country’s GI registration framework.
The IPD has outlined the documents applicants should prepare and the arrangements for submitting their applications.
Required Application Documents
Applicants seeking geographical indication registration in Myanmar should prepare:
- A completed Form GI-1.
- A product specification book describing the relevant product or goods.
- The particulars required under Rules 4 and 5 of the Geographical Indication Registration Rules.
- Product-quality verification from a domestic or foreign organisation holding an ISO/IEC Guide 65 certificate.
Applications must be submitted in person at the application reception office of the IPD’s headquarters in Nay Pyi Taw, together with the original application and one copy.
